Winter 2012

The winter wonderland we loved in 2011 eluded us in 2012, leaving us with more days seeing wintertime green grass than otherwise. No bother, though, as we did our best to make the most of our bare-ground beginning to 2012.

We rang in the New Year, as per usual, in our favorite way--with family in small town Cape Cod. We love Massachusetts during every season and at every temperature, but there is a certain reward to enjoying the milder January temperatures on the Cape.

Ian spent most of the winter wishing for more snow...but was also a kindergartner, karate master, pinewood derby car creator, back yard digger, and candle blower-outer (happy 6th birthday!). We were especially lucky to have his birth mom, Valerie, here for the week of his birthday--and celebrating in style with the family in Maine. (Also new this year: while feeling a little sad about wintertime birthday party constraints, Ian opted for a summertime half birthday party with his friends. More on that later.)

Blake turned 2 in March and has embraced every minute of it. He continued working with Marissa, his physical therapist, to be a better walker/climber/runner/jumper and [literally] made great strides. He also continued to amass a larger-than-life vocabulary which made us laugh....a lot.

In other wintertime news, our favorite sugar shack owner has moved to Florida, so we are going to have to shop for new allegiances next thaw.  Also, we enjoyed our Museum of Science membership as often as possible, Joe wrote lots of proposals requesting your tax dollars from the Department of Defense, Jen had a birthday, and we all basically hunkered down waiting for snow that never really came.
