Winter 2011
(January, February, and March)
So it turned out that the winter of 2011 was...well....white. Storm after storm after storm left us with record amounts of snow. Despite the feet (upon feet, upon feet) of the cold white stuff that was overrunning our personal space, we managed to get some things done and <gasp!> actually leave the house.
Three of us celebrated birthdays (not Joe--he's the summer hold-out), and some of us (ahem....Jen) began...um...a new decade. Ian reached the ripe old age of 5 and celebrated with a few friends and several dinosaurs. Additionally, Blake had the bonus of celebrating his first birthday with croup--which explained his incredibly anticlimactic encounter with his cake.
This winter also saw some old and some new! We went up to our favorite sugar shack (in Jaffrey, NH) to watch some exceptionally delicious maple syrup boil down. This has really become one of our favorite family traditions and we were happy to have Blake along this year. To spice things up a bit, and to introduce something new into the winter we attempted (and loved) our very first Family Staycation. We kept it a secret from Ian until the day before, and gave him an entire week of family time for him to plan all by himself. (He. Was. Thrilled.) If you haven't stay-cated, you're missing out. Do it. You won't be disappointed.
On other fronts, Ian entered the "open" class of the Pinewood Derby, Blake decided that crawling is preferable to just sitting there, Jen shoveled a lot of snow (even despite her *old age*), and Joe enjoyed taking the boys out in the winter wonderland.
